International arrivals up 15 percent in two months

According to a recent report from Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Viet Nam welcomed more than 860,000 overseas tourists in the first two months of this year; there was an increase of 15 percent over the same period last year. The number of tourists from China was up by 52.2 percent and by 34 percent from Thailand. Tourists from Sweden and Finland, who had high purchase power, also increased by 60.8 percent and 46 percent in number, respectively.

A recent survey has shown that travel agents are more likely to book a hotel as a result of a promotional message on a GDS. Some 80% of agents surveyed felt that showing the best available rate offered by the hotel - even if it is not a negotiated rate – was the best way to get them to book a hotel while they are researching a hotel for negotiated rates.
