Large Danish It And Electronic Delegation On Successful Visit To Vietnam

370 individual meetings led to a succesful visit of a Danish IT and Electronic delegation. Most of the Danish participants expect to be back in Vietnam soon to start up partnerships with Vietnamese companies

It was a success when 29 Danish companies with 50 participants from the IT and Electronic sectors visited Vietnam from the 15 April to 20 April with meetings in both Hanoi and HCMC. This very impressive delegation was supported and arranged by the Danish Embassy in co-operation with Håndværksrådet (The federation of small and medium sized enterprises) and DI (the Confederation of Danish Industries).
150 individual meetings were held in the North and 220 meetings in the South, a total of 370 meetings.
The feedback after the end of the visit was very positive. All of the companies had left with more than two potential partners, and almost all of the participants were very optimistic about future co-operations in Vietnam. The majority of the Danish companies participating in the delegation had been companies doing business with software and software development.
The Danish companies were also very impressed by the level of the Vietnamese companies that the Embassy had arranged for them to meet.

The participants at the knowledge-sharing seminar

“Vietnam – Why not?”
The IT and Electronic delegation started with a seminar at Hilton Hotel in Hanoi on Monday 16 April. The topic of the knowledge-sharing seminar was “IT and Electronic Sectors, Danish-Vietnamese Partnerships”. The participants were the 50 Danish participants in the delegation and their potential partner companies from and around Hanoi. The seminar speakers were the Danish Ambassador Mr. Peter Lysholt Hansen, Vice Minister of Post and Telematics H.E. Mr. Vu Duc Dam, Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman & CEO, FPT Corporation, Mr. Lorien Hamilton, Operations Director of TRG International, Mr. Rasmus Vaupel, Counsellor, Embassy of Denmark, Mr. Rene Dines CEO, Esoft Systems, and Mr. Mads Westermann, Globeteam-DTT. Vice Minister of Post and Telematics Mr. Vu Duc Dam and Mr. Truong Gia Binh, FTP, encouraged the participants to invest in Vietnam, and they introduced the many possibilities that the IT and Electronic sectors in Vietnam contain. The IT sector is one of the Vietnamese government’s most important driving forces to ensure that the country experiences more wealth and growth. As Mr. Truong Gia Binh from FPT Corporation was putting it to the audience: “Try Vietnam – why not?”

“Streets paved with gold”
TRG International is one of the companies that has followed Mr. Binh’s recommendation, since it operates in the IT sector in Vietnam. The company’s Operations Director Mr. Lorien Hamilton told the audience about the advantages and disadvantages of doing business in Vietnam. He mentioned among the advantages that a previous lack of investment in the Vietnamese IT sector is the reason why the streets in Vietnam, according to Mr. Hamilton, are paved with gold for foreign IT companies. He also pointed out that 60 pct. among the very large population of approx. 84 millions are below 30 years, which leaves a lot of potential, young labour for the IT and Electronic companies. Software piracy and cultural differences were some of the disadvantages that Lorien Hamilton mentioned in his presentation, but his over all point of view was that understanding the culture and working culture in Vietnam can help solving a lot of the emerging troubles in a partnership.

Hope of many new B2B projects
The Danish Ambassador Peter Lysholt Hansen was very satisfied after the successful visit by the delegation, including the seminar and the many individual meetings. “This business delegation is the biggest, we have had, and it has really surpassed our expectations. The feedback from the companies has been extremely positive, and I expect to see many of the Danish companies back in Vietnam in the near future in order to establish co-operations with Vietnamese companies. The B2B programme aims to facilitate and support partnerships between Danish and Vietnamese companies. Therefore I also hope that all or most of these partnerships will start up as B2B supported projects. I anticipate seeing great results within the coming years from new B2B supported projects in the Vietnamese IT and Electronic sectors”, says Peter Lysholt Hansen.
